Hi Rick

It is just great to hear from you and Michelle and I really hope to come along to the reunion. I have such good memories from the Genesis days and am trying desperately to remember everyones names and faces!

I have been living outside Australia for a long time - since the late '80's - so don't spend much time on the Darling Downs apart from (rare) quick trips back to see the family in Pittsworth. We are in Thailand and spend weekdays in Bangna, on the outskirts of Bangkok where our two girls go to school and weekends and holidays near Pattaya where we have a place at the beach. We have spent time in Singapore, Korea, France and England courtesy of Murray's job as an engineer with a British company and are very entrenched in expat life!

By a really strange coincidence I helped to organise a drama festival at my daughter's school last year - shades of Genesis - only this time the students came from all over south east Asia and had a fantastic time spending a few days together working on a production. It was the first time I had thought about Genesis for years (and years) and remember telling my girls all about it and how lucky we had been to be able to do something like that as 'country kids'!!

Look forward to hearing all the news and let me know if anyone is living near me!

New Album - 1978 - Bottoms Electric Summertime Dream

With the success Rick is having in contacting the cast & crew involved with the 1978 Bottoms Electric Summertime Dream production, it's now the right time to display memorabilia for this era separately. The program guide for the Bottoms Electric Summertime Dream is already available (click on the links below or on the sidebar entry).

Rick has been in contact with Bronwyn Myers recently and she has forwarded a copy of her collection of clippings from the era. These are now in the web Album (link below). Thanks Browyn!

Genesis Reunion Update - with Toowoomba Inner City Map attached.

 

Hello everyone!!

 

Can you believe that their's 'only 9 sleeps' until our Reunion!

 

We just wanted to send this map off to you all.  Hopefully you will be able to enlarge it, once you receive it.   The Empire Theatre is 56 Neil St, Toowoomba.  (Between Margaret and Herries Sts.  D 17 on the attached Map). 

 

If you look closely you will notice that the Empire Theatre is marked as a blue Star on the map!  How appropriate :)   You will also notice that on the opposite side of Neil St there are two Public Parking lots marked as a blue P - You will need to enter Neil St by turning off Margaret St, because Neil St is now ONE WAY, with traffic travelling South along Neil St.  If you are coming from the Range (Eastern) end of Toowoomba you turn left into Neil st, off Margaret St.  If you are coming from the Western side of Toowooomba along Margaret St, you need to turn right in to Neil St. 

 

Leo Keane has been very thorough and included a 'picture by picture' guide to help you find the actual room of the reunion!!!!!  Now how's that for service!!

Request:  Please pay the $30 to cover costs of individuals attending the reunion, if you haven't already done so. (Rick's bank details on Invitation).

 

Just to recap: The $30 covers the cost of yummy finger foods that will stop our tummies from rumbling throughout the evening! This $30 also helps to cover the cost of rental of the room and incidentals for the evening. 

 

The Reunion will be held in the Empire Theatre Lounge Bar and a barperson will be there to meet our beverage needs! The $30 does not cover the cost of drinks (as already mentioned in your invitation). You will need to pay for your own drinks when you order them from the bar. 

 

Also could you please let Rick know (if you haven't already), if you will be coming to the Coffee Club on the Sunday morning at 10.30am. This is so that we can give The Coffee Club the correct booking numbers.  Looks like we are booking out half of The Coffee Club that morning, 47 of us so far!!!  Once again, you pay for whatever you order.  It is table service and you pay at the counter on your way out.  The Coffee Club location is on the map also - B 16 - Cnr of Margaret and Victoria Sts.  (Opposite Garden Town Shopping Centre). 

 

Currently we have about 42 people attending the reunion!!!!   At least 33 of these people are from our Genesis/Bottom's team!  The other people are partners/spouses/relatives of DDYT team members!  

 

The plan is to give each of you a name tag on the evening.  We thought it would be easier to identify your Sir names as we remember you from DDYT days, just to make life easier.  Hope that's OK.

Where will the reunion be held?

The Darling Downs Youth Theatre Reunion 2007 will be held in the Lounge Bar at the Empire Theatre, 56 Neil St on Saturday 16th June commencing at 6:30 pm.

Looking at the Empire Theatre from Neil St, the Lounge Bar is on the first level on the far left front corner of the building. Neil St is one-way between Margaret St and Herries St with the traffic direction flowing from Margaret St towards Herries St.

To orientate yourselves in advance, I have added a web album with a series of photos that will guide you to the Lounge Bar.

30 Years in review

Married at 17 - First Child - Christopher
25 - 2nd child - Emma

Moved house - 10 times in total
Built 5 houses - 4 owner built

Had several part time jobs until starting at Woolworths in 1988 - stayed 9 years -> Big W
Moved over to a management position in 1997 stayed to November 2005 - left looking for the down shift.

Proud moments - Chris qualifying as an electrician - Emma as a chef - neither child ever touching drugs or getting into any trouble - staying married for 29 years

Now actively involved in wildlife care - mostly macropods & assist with rescue of Koalas.

I'm a grandmother of a 3 year old - Christopher's boy.
